Taylor Swift, who very publicly moved to Manhattan last year — she even
became an "ambassador" for the city and included the song "Welcome to
New York" on her multi-platinum album 1989 — had a creepy
surprise waiting for her when she arrived home on Tuesday. Someone who
appears to be a fan left at least 13 notes on the pop star's door
yesterday, according to this disturbing post on Instagram.
The 25-year-old singer is photographed regularly coming and going from her downtown NYC apartment. But she’s also — rather brilliantly — opened up her life to her fans in a way that few recording artists of her stature (and sales numbers) do. While most celebs would understandably be a little resistant to forging friendships with their admirers, it’s paid off for Swift — her dedicated fan base propelled 1989 to record breaking sales topping 4 million copies.
Unfortunately, all of this seeming access, coupled with the fact that it is very, very easy to figure out where Swift lives, can lead to fans feeling like Taylor is really in their lives, when she just isn't. The notes on her door — signed "Love, Daisy" — seem fairly innocent, but while she may invite fans into her home, she probably doesn't want them showing up uninvited on her doorstep. We don't want her to change out of fears for her own safety, because her interaction with fans is very genuine, but as @belleswift17 commented on Twitter, "What was that person thinking?!? It makes me so mad because she lets us into so much of her life."
Hopefully Taylor will still keep her door open (or at least cracked) for her adoring fans.
